Illinois Student Organization of Meteorology
Welcome to the Illinois Student Organization of Meteorology (ISTORM)! As a Student Chapter of the American Meteorological Society and Registered Student Organization with the university, any student at UIUC who has an interest in atmospheric sciences is more than welcome to join! The easiest way to get involved is to join our Discord server by clicking the button below! This is our main method of communicating information, including when our next meetings are!
Events
ISTORM hosts a variety of types of events, from fun social gatherings, to forecasting meetings, to professional development sessions!
Every week, our Lead Forecasters hold a forecasting meeting at 7pm on Monday and Thursday to discuss the forecasts for Champaign-Urbana and for other severe weather events that may be occurring across the country. All levels of forecasting knowledge are encouraged to attend!
General meetings and social gatherings tend to occur at least once a month to keep members updated and connected. Some of our favorite social events include Murphy Mondays and Coco Mero + Clouds (pictured)!
Engineering Open House meetings typically occur once a week/two weeks in the Spring Semester to plan our award-winning exhibits that we put on display during the EOH exhibition that is open to the public!
Again, be sure to join our Discord and follow our Instagram to stay updated on when our next events are happening!

Engineering Open House
Engineering Open House (EOH) takes place in April every year, and is entirely organized by UIUC’s STEM & engineering students. During EOH, ISTORM loves to show off how cool atmospheric sciences is!
Every year we brainstorm and create multiple different atmospheric science exhibits to engage all ages of scientists! In the past we have crafted demonstrations like a tornado in a bottle, cloud identification kits, and a model of the largest hail ever recorded. Also, with the help of staff, we do two balloon launches that draws a crowd on the Bardeen Quadrangle!
As a member of ISTORM, you can help us create another award-winning booth to help involve the community in climate, meteorology, and atmospheric sciences!
